Torbay Hospital Survey
Torbay Hospital contracted IBI Group to complete a survey of its facilities to support redevelopment. Instead of using traditional survey methods which would have been disruptive to staff and unnecessarily complicated, we completed the survey using drones, saving the Hospital time and money.

Reducing the time, cost and hassle of site surveys with UAV technology
Site surveys using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), or drones, are an innovative and efficient solution when business must go on at a sensitive location like a hospital complex. We carried out the UAV survey at Torbay Hospital on behalf of the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.
The project required careful planning to ensure we could gather the needed data on the site’s 1,500,00 square meters of buildings, grounds and facilities with minimal impact on hospital operations. We divided the site into manageable portions for multiple flights and planned flight paths that allowed for a clear line of sight to the UAV at all times. Our choice of take-off and landing points also served to minimise disruption.
In total, we performed 27 flights to ensure the collection of complete and accurate survey data.
Through the efficiencies gained from high-speed recording, effective assessment and management of planning, design and construction activities, our UAV survey capability enabled us to pass on significant cost savings to the client.
