TRANSIT-performance

Transit agencies work hard to develop, communicate and manage their schedules, but the real world often gets in the way. TRANSIT-performance provides powerful analysis of an agency’s service performance using GTFS, GTFS-realtime feeds and data from operational systems.

TRANSIT-performance harnesses the value in your data by leveraging the GTFS-realtime predictions, vehicle locations, and service alert data already being provided to customers, and data from CAD/AVL, APC, or AFC systems. The system allows operations staff to identify and quickly respond to problems as they arise while also enabling and empowering planners and schedulers to analyze historical operations data and adjust schedules based on actual conditions. 

Conduct comprehensive analysis

The system measures the quality of service provided by the agency and experienced by riders including schedule adherence, travel time, headway performance, dwell time, and the accuracy of real-time predictions. Information is recorded in real time, allowing analysis of a complete sample of data. 

Record & measure performance in real time

The system continuously processes arrival and departure events and predictions in real time for all active vehicles operating trips on all routes and directions at all stops. It calculates performance metrics in real time and flags instances where performance does not meet specified thresholds. 

Integrate with multiple data sources

Agencies that choose to deploy the TRANSIT-alerts and TRANSIT-realtime modules will be able to seamlessly provide data for analysis to the TRANSIT-performance system. Other data sources, like the agency’s operational CAD/AVL, APC, or AFC systems can be included. 

Your data, your way

TRANSIT-performance provides web services API calls and direct access to data tables. Analyze your performance metrics in place, ingest pertinent output into your agency’s own data repository for analysis or archiving, or implement IBI Group’s TRANSIT-dashboards and immediately leverage purpose-built data visualizations. 

IBI Group developed TRANSIT-performance in partnership with Boston’s Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), where it has served as the agency’s data warehouse for transit operational data since May 2015. The system is being used for MBTA’s subway, light rail, and bus services, and data from the system powers the MBTA’s public performance dashboard.

The system was also implemented for Everett, Washington’s Community Transit in 2020, and it has been used to assess the quality of real-time passenger information (predicted arrival times) for Oakland, California’s AC Transit; Baltimore, Maryland’s MDOT MTA; and Washington, DC’s WMATA, among others.
