IBI Group was recently commissioned to deploy a new toll system for the Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) in northern Michigan. Central to the project was the transition from the legacy system to the IBI toll system, which our team executed seamlessly to ensure service was not interrupted for motorists or operators.
Designed to facilitate diverse vehicle types through attended and electronic toll collection (ETC) lanes, our system features nine toll lanes and two reversible lanes, for a total of 11 logical lanes, and accepts cash, credit, transponder and smart card payments. Our professionals provided the project’s business rules, toll system design, hardware procurement, installation, IBI toll system application, testing, training and data migration services. We also effectively repurposed equipment from the legacy system and defined a solution with longevity and ease-of-maintenance in mind.
The back-office solution includes a robust account management platform that directly integrates with a customer website and mobile application, enabling payments made by customers online to be reflected at the toll lanes within minutes.
Our operator-centric solution allows toll collectors to effectively process transactions via an interface tailored for their needs. It also provides back-office operators enhanced transaction management and reporting features, including streamlined account management, live system monitoring and transaction auditing. We also integrated IBI’s InForm solution, which enables operators to take a holistic maintenance approach for more effective asset management and maintenance of the toll plaza.
In addition to deploying our current and adaptable system, we are also providing maintenance for an initial period of four years. Our stewardship of the new system, and continued relationship with the MBA, represents an ongoing investment in leading-edge systems design and integrated technology solutions.
